In the area of estate planning, Lou has created well over ten thousand estate plans. He has also administered over one thousand estates. Lou’s fees are very competitive.
For four consecutive years, Lou received the prestigious Five Star Wealth Manager Award for one of the top estate planning attorneys in the Denver Metropolitan area. At the time that he was selected, the people who recommended the winners were members of the general public ( primarily people who were clients of those rewarded). Those selected were in the top four percent in their field.
Lou also works extensively in transactional law, primarily assisting clients in buying and selling businesses. He specializes in assisting dentists and physicians. His approach is to try to get the transaction closed, while at the same time protecting his client. Lou also does a considerable amount of work in entity formation.
Lou’s strong tax background is a significant benefit to his clients, both in estate planning, estate administration and business transactions. He has been advising clients on tax consequences of transactions for fifty years. He started his career working as a CPA in the tax department of the then Big Eight accounting firm of Arthur Young & Company. His strong understanding of the tax consequences of transactions has helped many clients achieve tax savings.
Lou has taught taxation and accounting principles at the University of Illinois and taught accounting principles at Metro State and at the University of Colorado has taught Tax Factors in Real Estate. He has also taught classes for the Colorado of CPAs, The Wyoming Society of CPAs and the Nevada Society of CPAS in taxation of estates and trusts. He has also taught classes in advanced estate planning and business valuation to chartered life underwriters.
Lou has also contributed a substantial amount of his time serving on boards of charitable organizations such as the University of Colorado Lung Foundation, Kids in Need of Dentistry, the National Kidney Foundation, Rose Hospital and the Donor Awareness Foundation.
He enjoys spending his time with his wife Jackie, two sons and their wives and four wonderful grandchildren.
